Final Blog, Thanks for everyone

This will be my final post for this semester. Throughout this semester, I have learnt much more than I expected. I start get to know the world in a different eye. This course gives me ability to think global citizenship systemically. The most important thing is to be a global citizen is not hard, you don't have to be a famous people don't have to have lots of money. The only thing you need is a willing heart to help and learn.

I hope this class can be known by more people.

Thank you for watching my blog

Corporate Global citizenship

In this blog, I am going to talk about corporate global citizenship. As we all know, Some large companies already start to take responsibility to help solve global issue as a global citizen.

In this blog I would like to talk about Microsoft. as we all know, Microsoft is one of the largest electronic companies in the world. Microsoft was founded in 1975 by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Until today it already have 113 subsidiaries around the world with about 99000 full-time employees in more than 100 counties supported millions of job.

Microsoft have many project try to help in global issue. Such as Microsoft YouthSpark
Technology for, Good  Employee giving  , Humanitarian Response

Microsoft YouthSpark is to give opportunities for more than 300 million youth around the world so that they can have a better and brighter future. YouthSpark grants aim to help youth learn new knowledge and technical skills all around the world. According to the Microsoft, 186 no-for-profit organisations in 62 countries were awarded with grants to help youth. Secondly, YouthSpark helps youth with skills and creative ideas pursue their dreams and careers when they graduate from universities. Its ‘Give for Youth’ website has successfully raised more than $1.4 million and helped over 600 projects around the world since 2012. Also, it encourages youth to have innovations and entrepreneurship via the BizSpark program. Till now, this program has helped more than 30000 young entrepreneurs start their new businesses in over 100 countries.

I used to participate in an activity of Mircosoft in China when I graduated from high school. It was to be a 2 weeks volunteer teacher for primary school student in a little poverty village. Students  are from 7-12 year old.  In that village, there even don't have light and TV. From my city to got there take us 6 hours train, 3 hours bus and 2 hours carriage. When we got there we are so exhausted. You know most of us are just 18 years old. But that experience makes me benefit a lot. The people maybe are really poor there but they live peacefully with the nature. No air and water pollution and don't have to worry about food safety.

The reason why I want to talk about this is Big companies like Microsoft holding this actives are not only helping the poor kids but also education the people who live in the big city have a fancy life. That can makes more and more people start to pay attention on helping other to make the world better.

World issue concern to global citizen

The Ninth week of lecture revolved issue of concern Global economic, Global human development, Global environment, peace and security and global governance.

In this blog I want to take a look of air pollution in China,According to the World Bank in 2007, 16 of the world's 20 most polluted cities are in China. I just read a new by last week that an eight-year-old girl has become China's youngest lung cancer patient, with doctors blaming pollution as the direct cause of her illness.

In research of Green peace with Peking University school of public health cooperation, pm2.5 and the cost of public health has done a survey, in 2012, Beijing, Shanghai, guangzhou and xi 'an this four cities because of the sudden death of pm2.5 number more than 8500 people, the equivalent of one hundred million dollars.

For example, Parts of Harbin air quality monitoring station reported, PM2.5 concentrations exceeded 1000 micrograms per cubic meter. It was achieved safety standards stipulated by the world health organization 40 times.

Industrial pollution and Vehicle emissions are the main cause of air pollution. Now Chinese government start to increase pressure to local factories. More and more Chinese willing to give up driving to work instead of ride or walk. Research new energy already been one of the top goal for some   energy-intensive factories.

Documentary Global Civics

After these few weeks work I did some research from Internet, I found a really good public benefit documentary Called '' Global Civics''.

Pubic benefit documentary "Global Civics" by the Yale class of 2009 world scholars, independent producer JianYi director, Yale world scholars program and the German Mercator foundation support, team of volunteers in nine countries around the world. The film had an interview with the ordinary citizen, religious people, and some people in the society such as wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, the United Nations development program (undp)  the ex-director Kemal Dervis, and the 2008 Nobel peace prize winner and former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari, a former UN deputy secretary-general.

The theme of this documentary is "global citizenship", its core idea involves the era of globalization, individual and the responsibility of the human society.

I watched this film and I really like one question that point out from this movie.
Whether a person needs to be in charge of a stranger on the other side of the world?

Human irreversibly entered the era of globalization. In this age, we might know who is our neighbors, but had a lot of netizens on the virtual network; We may never participate in the activities of the community residents' committees, but We might continue speak  in the network community for a whole day ; We may not know who is your mayor, but may watch American election enthusiastically. In this era, America's subprime crisis could affect the life of a workers from little city of China;  A well-off family preference for wooden furniture, could threaten the Indonesian primeval forest wildlife habitat ; While Japan's tsunami also can lead to the boom of Chinese residents buying salt.

But it seems people still not mature enough to handle this rapidly changing world. We have technique and skills to make a better life. But it seems we forget to respect the nature and forget what is the original purpose of life.  In the film, they interview different people from different religions, career, culture, age and culture ask them also ask the audience like us, what is our responsiblity? How? Why?
May be a movie can not change all of the people, but for the person who willing to change it is a really good start from this movie. This movie makes me start to think what can I do for the world.

Just hope more and more people on the basic of respect different culture can participate on helping global issue.

Multiculture and culture awareness

There is a new word has been point out in week 5 Annabelle's lecture-- culture awareness.

In oxford dictionary Culture means, The skills, arts, beliefs and customs of a group of people passed from one generation to other.

Before people start to know and respect other person's culture, Culture awareness can help people find their own culture knowledge, value and help them build up their own world view, values and beliefs. After people know their own culture, cross culture awareness  can be easier to understand.

In this semester I have a course called advance of studio lighting. In our assignment 2 we have to get inspirations from a  movie to take a picture. The movie I choose is called ' Paris, Texas ', It was directed  by a German director but it was an American movie. I don't want to talk much about how this movie is. But this movie and the director make me know one thing is that sometimes you have jump out your world and join to others to know your culture and your life. The outsider could see more than an insider.

I am a international student from China.  China has over 5000 years in history and we have 56 minorities. Before I came to Australia, I thought I know my country so I barely watch any news of it.  At the beginning of I came to here, I was interested with anything. The people, environment, building, culture, language were all know to me. Slowly I start to compare it with China. If I met one thing I will think How would I do if I was in China ? What would Australian probably do?
In this 3 years of my study, most of my art work are all relative with find out culture different and combine this two culture together.

Now this course makes me systematic learning culture awareness and globalization. I hope that could help me more on my way to art.

What is global citizen?

Before I start to learn this course I am really interested with a question: What is global citizen ?
To me global is a really familiar word, It seems we can read it watch it every day on Internet, news paper and television. In dictionary Citizen means A person owing loyalty to and entitled by birth or naturalization to the protection of a state or nation.

But What is global citizen?
After few weeks learning, use my own word to explain this word I think is
A person that has an understanding of the world and know his own role as a world citizen also respect his own and others value and culture. Willing to take responsibility and participated in help global issue.

That's remind me a scandal of Chinese red cross organization.
A pretty young woman  Ms Guo posted herself with a fancy luxury car on Chinese twitter accompained by her claim t be a commercial general manager for the Red Cross Society of China.
The pictures show that Guo draped across expensive cars and her collections of over 30 Hermes bags.
The Red Cross of Chinese has denied they have links to Ms Guo, who in turn later insisted she was not employed by the charity.

However, a board member of an organization that runs campaigns for the Red cross in China has resigned amid allegations Ms Guo was his mistress and that young woman's luxury lifestyle has been paid for embezzled from the organization.

That year, the charity registered a 60% drop in privates donations. People claimed that they won't do any donation to Red cross any more, There didn't have any possible way to tracking the money. Compare donation to the organization they prefer trust the people working on the first line of saving people. They more prefer deliver goods and food to the first line.

This news already passed about 2 years but in China, Red Cross China still can't win back people's trust. Organizations use people's trust to make profit for their own. I can't say that it only happened in China ,there might be some place else happened that we don't know. But who would take respond for that? People willing to participated in help Global poverty or environment issue. People would like to act in local helping global issue take responsibility in their act but who will take responsibility for the next step ?
